Lamed ל

The letter ל (Lamed) is the twelfth letter of the Aleph-Bet, having a numeric value of 30. The pictograph for Lamed looks like a shepherd’s staff or goad. Lamed is the tallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet and is considered the central or “heart” of the alphabet. The Hebrew name of the letter itself, Lamed, comes from the root lamad meaning to learn or teach. As Lamed is taller and towers over the other alphabet letters, it is said to represent the King of Kings!

Lamed ל Prayer Focus: The Shepherd King!

A Shepherd uses their staff to guide and protect their sheep. There are several shepherds throughout scripture but there is only one Good Shepherd. Jesus is not only comforting us in times of struggle, but giving us direction as we draw near. Jesus didn’t come to be served, He came to serve. He also came ready to lay His life down for His sheep.

In John 10 Jesus also says “I am the door.” It isn’t saying A door, it says THE door. Not only is Jesus our Shepherd, but He is the only way in which we can enter and be saved. When Jesus comes He will separate the sheep and the goats. The sheep will go to His right and inherit the kingdom, the goats will go to the left and be told, ‘Depart from me’.

Following Jesus isn’t optional. It’s the only Way to eternal life!

As King of Kings, Jesus is our authority and ruler. Just as a sheep follows their shepherd, how much more should we follow and obey our King of Kings! Today let’s pray that we will follow the leading of Jesus, our Good Shepherd and make Him King of every part of our lives!

Section ל of Psalm 119

Psalms 119:89-96 (NET) ל (Lamed)

89 O LORD, your instructions endure;

they stand secure in heaven.

90 You demonstrate your faithfulness to all generations.

You established the earth and it stood firm.

91 Today they stand firm by your decrees,

for all things are your servants.

92 If I had not found encouragement in your law,

I would have died in my sorrow.

93 I will never forget your precepts,

for by them you have revived me.

94 I belong to you. Deliver me!

For I seek your precepts.

95 The wicked prepare to kill me,

yet I concentrate on your rules.

96 I realize that everything has its limits,

but your commands are beyond full comprehension.
