Nun נ

The letter נ (Nun) is the fourteenth letter of the Aleph-Bet, having a numeric value for 50. The pictograph for Nun looks something like a seed, whereas the classical Hebrew script (Ketav Ashurit) is constructed of a bent Vav with a crown like a Zayin. According to the sages, Nun is said to represent both faithfulness and the reward for faithfulness.

Nun נ Prayer Focus: Seeds of Faithfulness!

When Jesus spoke, it often came in the form of a parable. A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Jesus told the parable of the sower and explained that as the sower went out, the seeds fell upon different paths. In this story the man is Jesus, and the seed is the Good News. What remains the same is that no matter which path the person is on, each one was hearing the word. The only one that prospered was the one who heard and understood.

You can’t follow Jesus without change. Jesus makes it simple; it’s being faithful in the small things. We make it complicated. We have been given the knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom. Faithfulness is us surrendering to God’s way instead of our own.

In Aramaic, the word Nun means “fish”, a symbol of activity and life. Jesus tells us that He is the bread of life, and that “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life because of me will find it.” God will supply us with everything we need.

As we pray today let’s focus on the Good News Jesus declared and put those seeds of faithfulness in action!

Section נ of Psalm 119

Psalms 119:105-112 (NET) נ (Nun)

105 Your word is a lamp to walk by,

and a light to illumine my path.

106 I have vowed and solemnly sworn

to keep your just regulations.

107 I am suffering terribly.

O LORD, revive me with your word!

108 O LORD, please accept the freewill offerings of my praise!

Teach me your regulations!

109 My life is in continual danger,

but I do not forget your law.

110 The wicked lay a trap for me,

but I do not wander from your precepts.

111 I claim your rules as my permanent possession,

for they give me joy.

112 I am determined to obey your statutes

at all times, to the very end.
