Ayin ע

The 16th letter of the Hebrew alphabet is “Ayin” and is pronounced “ah-yeen.” Similar to Aleph, Ayin also has no sound of its own and generally has a vowel associated with it. It also has three forms and has a numeric value of 70. The pictograph version resembles an eye.

Ayin ע Prayer Focus: By Faith Not Sight!

Ayin not only has a letter form that looks like an eye, but the word itself means eye or to see. By extension, the Hebrew understanding is that it also means to understand and obey. While there are many other symbols and meanings associated with Ayin, today we will focus on faith!

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NET)

7 for we live by faith, not by sight.

The message topic focus for this month is Faith Forward. Faith is not what we can see, but holding fast to what God has said, no matter what things may look like.

Just as Ayin has no sound in and of itself, faith in God recognizes we have no real power or strength without God! Jesus is our access to restored relationship with our Heavenly Father.

James 2:26 (NET)

26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

But faith isn’t just a mental exercise – faith is also the key to obedience. Even when we don’t fully understand or if the circumstances don’t make sense, faith is still our call to action.

Today, let’s pray that God will help us walk and live by faith in His goodness, not by sight!

Psalms 119:121-128 (NET) ע (Ayin)

121 I do what is fair and right.

Do not abandon me to my oppressors!

122 Guarantee the welfare of your servant!

Do not let the arrogant oppress me!

123 My eyes grow tired as I wait for your deliverance,

for your reliable promise to be fulfilled.

124 Show your servant your loyal love!

Teach me your statutes!

125 I am your servant. Give me insight,

so that I can understand your rules.

126 It is time for the LORD to act –

they break your law!

127 For this reason I love your commands

more than gold, even purest gold.

128 For this reason I carefully follow all your precepts.

I hate all deceitful actions.
